I’m sure you are all aware of the danger posed to our bees by the Asian Hornet. This year, there have been 66 confirmed nests in 50 locations in Kent. Four nests have been found in Kent this week. One in the Folkestone area, 2 in different locations in the West Downs area and 1 in the Dover area.

Asian Hornet Watch is a new app which has been launched to help people quickly and easily report sightings of this invasive species. The ‘Asian Hornet Watch’ app is available to download from the Apple and Android app stores.

This innovative new app is designed to be easy to use and allows people to report quickly any possible sightings of Asian hornets, which will help to halt their spread. This invasive species poses a threat to our native honey bees, and we must do all we can to encourage vigilance - this new technology will advance this.

Sightings can also report sightings by email to [email protected] with a photo or on the Non-native Species Secretariat website http://www.nonnativespecies.org/home/index.cfm

Details on the appearance of an Asian hornet can be found in the Bee Base guide https://www.nationalbeeunit.com/
